LEARN IN MOTION
Designing for ADHD-Friendly Learning Spaces
Learn in Motion is a modular desk and chair system designed to support students with ADHD by transforming classrooms into movement-friendly, choice-driven environments. Each chair encourages a different motion — bouncing, rocking, swinging, or spinning — and is color-coded to help students self-select the kind of support they need in the moment. The system invites flexibility, autonomy, and physical engagement, helping kids regulate their energy and stay focused in ways that feel natural to them.
This project grew out of both research and lived experience. As someone with dyslexia, I spent years in shared classrooms with students who had ADHD. I watched how rigid structures and one-size-fits-all expectations left many of my peers feeling frustrated, isolated, and misunderstood. I designed Learn in Motion to challenge and to prove that inclusive tools don’t have to be high-tech or out of reach. Using CNC fabrication, the system can be built affordably by any school with basic tools, turning a standard classroom into a space that’s flexible, welcoming, and built to move.
